The sign TAKE-up is used to mean "taking a class" or "adopt" as in, "I want to adopt a child." You can see an example of TAKE-up in the video above. She signs, "I am taking an ASL class" and signs, "I TAKE-up ASL CLASS". This sign is different from the sign TAKE you would use to indicate that you took (or got) something (i.e. TAKE-from).
